Red is a beloved and sometimes elusive color to attain in natural dyeing. In this intensive workshop we will be exploring 3 historically important red dyes, and playing with chemistry to push the shades further. Working with wool yarns, we will use Cochineal, Madder root and Lac and glean at least 15 shades of red, pink, brick, scarlet, plum, burgundy…all the reds!

Everyone will leave with a full set of mini skeins, enough for a small project. You may wish to bring note taking materials and please bring something to bring home damp yarns in, basin, plastic bag etc. This is an outside workshop so plan accordingly for sun, weather etc.
