Do you have a lot of partially used skeins or scrap yarns? A jar of yarn trimmings? What about a pile of novelty yarns you don’t know how to use? All of these materials are perfect for making adorable amigurumi.
Amigurumi is the Japanese art of making dolls using knitting or crochet. In this class, you will learn how to use simple crochet stitches to create a whimsical jellyfish. We will learn how to read an amigurumi pattern, master the magic circle, shape your amigurumi using stitch increases and decreases, the art of stuffing a doll, and how to embellish your jellyfish. This class is suitable for all skill levels, but beginners must be able to single crochet and tension their yarn.
Some yarn and stuffing material will be provided, but feel free to bring your own yarn. Novelty and handspun yarns can be incorporated into the tentacles of the jellyfish and yarn trimmings can be used as stuffing.
Materials Needed
Worsted weight yarn for the body of the jellyfish (~100m)
Additional yarn for tentacles (various weights)
Crochet hooks in a variety of sizes (at least a 4.0, 4.5, and 5.5mm for worsted weight yarn)
