Create a beautiful Hand-Stitched Decoration or Scented Gift!
Sashiko translates as “small stabs”. A transformative running stitch! It is a traditional Japanese Mending and Quilting handwork practice that creates strong and geometric patterns on textiles. This workshop will focus on the decorative embroidery Hitomezashi = One Stitch designs and traditional floral motifs inspired by nature.
Participants will hand stitch patterns with Sashiko needles & colorful cotton Sashiko thread to create a few denim sachets perfect for gift-giving or festive decoration. Choose from a variety of traditional Hitomezashi Sashiko patterns; horizontal rows, tiny plus signs, star stitch, rice stitch and woven tortoise. Floral motifs include; gingko leaf, cherry blossom, plum blossom, asanoha leaf, and chrysanthemum. All tools and materials are provided to make sachets in the workshop and continue at home.
Bring your good reading glasses, water bottle, and snack.
Open to all skill levels from novice to veteran stitcher! Everyone will work at their own pace and choose patterns that suit their own design aesthetic and comfort level.
