The Ecoprint Journal Workshop With Kathy Johnson- 2 Sessions

  • Madison Wool 56 Wall Street Madison, CT 06443 (map)

The Eco-Printed Journal Workshop.  With Kathy Johnson.  Two Sessions:  Saturday, October 16 and 23, 2021.  11 AM- 2 PM.  $140.00.  $50.00 deposit holds your space.  Call 203-245-5921 to register.

Learn the basics of eco-printing on paper while you create a one-of-a-kind botanical print filled journal.

* Discover what leaves and flowers are the best to use for eco-printing and why.

* Learn about the magic ingredient called alum that gives an extra boost to the colors you can get with your prints

* Work with 2 bundling styles, the layered bundle and the rolled bundle.

* Explore the technique of stitching on paper.

Day 1 - Eco-printing Preparation

We’ll go over the process of eco-printing on paper and prepare the journal bundle and the journal cover bundle. You'll add extra loose papers to each of the bundles so you'll have extra eco-printed papers for another project of your choice.

You'll get step-by-step instructions for "boiling" the prepared bundles so you'll be all set to get "cooking" at your convenience once the first class is done and the next steps to take so you’ll be prepared for the next weeks session.

Day 2 - Making the journal

You'll put the journal cover together, add a closure feature, and finish the cover edges with stitching.

Learn how to repair any journal pages that may have ripped while being unbundled. See how these little "accidents" offer you a chance to get creative and make the journal uniquely yours. We’ll go over techniques you can use in your book that will add extra interest to your pages.

Kathy Johnson is a collage and eco-print artist from Waterford, CT. She has a passion for plants, paper, rusty metal and creating a second life for discarded items by repurposing them into her art. After becoming a Master Gardener and discovering the process of eco-printing her garden became an integral part of her teaching and art practice. She finds the process to be the ultimate combination of art, nature and science. There are so many variables that it keeps the process exciting as well as challenging. Unwrapping the bundles never looses its allure – it’s like opening presents on Christmas morning.
