Thrummed Mittens. With Mary Crosby. Two Classes: Wednesday, February 3 & 10, 2016. 7-9 PM. $40.00. $10.00 deposit holds your space.
Join Mary to learn how to make the warmest mittens known! You will learn how to work in the round, using double pointed needles or the Magic Loop method, make a thumb gusset vs an afterthought thumb, and learn how to thrum as you knit. The term thrums refers to the waste yarn from weaving looms, which was used to make these mitts in Labrador and Newfoundland several hundred years ago. Thrumming in the modern day uses wool roving, which makes a lovely fluffy lining that compacts and molds to your hand to keep your fingers warm as toast! You will want to thrum hats, slippers, and socks too!
