Did you know that there are very few sources of green dye in the natural dye world? Many green plant materials are actually yellow dye sources. In order to create greens, we must first dye things yellow and then overdye them with Indigo blue.

In this intensive dye workshop, we will learn about different dye sources to give us a range of different yellows- from bright sunny yellow to golden yellow to brownish yellow. Understanding these base yellows will help us to create a variety of greens when combined with Indigo. We will also use some color modifying techniques to push the range even further.

We will be working with wool mini skeins of yarn, you will leave with at least 20 mini skeins (900 yds or so) in the range of colors we dye in class, as well as a reference color card for your dye portfolio.

Please bring with you clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, note taking materials and whatever you may need to comfortably spend the day outside.

Lunch:  restaurants available to order take out, and a fridge and microwave available for use. We have water, tea, and snacks.
