Are you ready to get raggy? Raggy enough to start this fun, traditional rug making craft called Amish Toothbrush? This is a simple technique that involves stitching with ripped up rags (in this case cotton) and building your rug in rows with the same, simple stitch.
Remember how toothbrushes used to come with a hole in the bottom? Women would cut of the handle, dull it to a point, and thread rags through the hole to create these colorful and practical rugs.
This class will come with the hardwood Amish Toothbrush tool, and a bag of colorful long quarters of hand-dyed cottons to get you ripping and 'toothbrushing'. You can choose between an oval or a circle rug. Get the hard part done in class, and finish at your leisure.

Learn all the rug hooking basics with Tom, the wild turkey. This 10" square seasonal pattern is not your average Thanksgiving Tom you see popping up all over the place! Tom is a native, wild turkey. The sketchbook quality of the pattern makes it easy to fill in graffiti-like colors and lines from the complete kit you'll receive. We will practice basic techniques and tricks as well as experiment at a slightly advanced level with color theory and graphic effects.
This class comes complete with the pattern and all of the hand-dyes wool yarns you'll need to complete this piece. Hoop and hook sets will be available for an additional $20. You are welcome to borrow a hoop and hook before you buy.
Learn this historic thrift craft in a stress-free environment, and work to evolve your personal style with confidence and encouragement from the very beginning. When you leave the class, you will be able to pick up your piece and finish it without hesitation, and tackle your next piece without fear.

The Elusive Multi-Strand Braided Rug. With Deana David of www.ribboncandyhooking.com. Saturday, March 23, 2024. 1-4 PM. $110.00. $25.00 deposit holds your space. All materials included.
Everyone has heard of and seen a traditional braided rug, made up of the parts. The 'braided-in' rug dates back to the early 20th century and, being so poorly documented from generation to generation, nearly fell out of existence because so few people knew how to make it. Learn the mystery of the multi-braid and learn how to braid a very simple 8-strand rug that works up so quickly you won't believe it!
The class comes with 1-2 pounds of randomly colored t-shirt material already cut into strips, and all the clips and pins you will need to make a small rug. Feel free to bring some old t-shirts in colors you like to add to your stockpile and I can show you how to chop shop them to get the most out of them; it is not necessary as the class comes with the materials you will need, but sometimes it's fun to cut up an old tie dye or a nostalgic old shirt that has special meaning to you.
This is a great recycle/ repurpose project that will give you the skills, tools, and knowledge to carry on making beautiful braided rugs of other shapes and styles in the future, using your castaway clothing. Please bring scissors. Everything else is supplied for you to keep.

Welcome to the 19th century technique called 'Penny Rugs'. During the Civil War era pennies were much larger - almost an inch in size. Women who 'mended and made do' used up their smallest scraps of fabric by making these charming 'rugs' comprised of a series of graduated sewn circle 'pennies'.
This class comes with a 6oz. bag of pennies (about 100 pennies) in a mix of sizes and colors, as well as yarn, needles, snippers, and everything you need to get pennying!
